Over the river and knew we were halfway there
Up another hill, then down we go, round the curves
Cattle grazing in the pastures,
We knew we were getting closer
To that place where we loved and were loved
A country place our folks called 'up home'
We turn off the highway
Go through the small rural town
Go to the curve turn left, one block then right
Onto the pavement to the dirt road
Take a left past rodeo arena
Past the park then right on the curve,
A two story white farm house soon comes into view
Then a left onto the gravel driveway
We were finally 'up home
Where the air was sweet and fresh
Horses were waiting to take us for a ride
Cousins to play with all day
Grandpa tending to the cattle by the barn door
Grandma in the kitchen doing the dinner chores
The aroma of apple pie permeated the air
Hugs and kisses all around
We were finally 'up home'
In that valley between the hills
Where life is a bit slower
We liked it that way
Where children were safe
Spending happy days surrounded by family
And still do even when they are grown...
There is a dirt road I travel often
It always leads me back
To a place in the country
