Just a small town gal and that is all I'll ever be,
where life is just another iced sweet tea away,
where you can see the twinkling stars at night,
the wonders of the moon,
and puffy white clouds floating across the blue sky.
Welcome to my blog from the heartland, full of random musings, observations, reflections, things I love, events in my life, humor..

Waddling Ducks and Writer's or Blogger's Block

So much to write about much of the time and then not enough hours in the day.  Then there are days that I have all kinds of time on my hands and really feel motivated to write and along comes writer's block. Could be that my problem is that I do not consider myself a writer by any stretch of the imagination. Often wondered is a blogger different from a writer? Hmmmmmm.....

Writer's block, my arch nemesis decided today was the day to visit my blonde brain. From the time I learned to read and write, I have had a love for writing as well as reading.  In grade school went through a spell where I wrote plays. I spent hours writing scripts and then badgering my siblings to be the actors. I pestered my teacher to let my friends and I perform my plays for show and tell. I was so prolific that she finally had to gently tell me that we didn't have time to do this every week. I have tried my hand at poems, lyrics, short stories and a children's story for one of my nieces, her request, for her 4th birthday.  Mind you, these attempts were just that and quite amateurish and for the most part for my eyes only.  Now that blogging has become the 'in' thing to do, (not that I have ever felt the need to be 'in' about anything and march to my own drummer as they say) and being dutiful to learning as much as possible about blogging and writing since I decided to attempt it, I have over time read many articles, tips and advice about honing this skill.

I guess it is a skill. I certainly don't feel confident or adept in this area.  Some of the advice and tips I have read on blogging is to write in your own voice as if you are talking to a good friend, sibling or your cousin. Wonder if talking to the dog counts? The main thing is just be yourself. Most blogging tips also include the advice to blog often. They tell you that even if you don't write a 20 paragraph essay about some earthshaking event, or a lengthy piece on why ducks waddle, at least try each day to just write a paragraph or two about anything, like a simple everyday event, or post a photo and a caption. The apparent concept is that blogging needs daily tending and nurturing in order for you to become a more prolific blogger. As you can tell, this blog has been lacking in tending and if going to have a blog, one must at least try to do better. So once again attempting to nurture my writing with the sincere hope the words will suddenly appear and have some semblance of coherency.

The tips are much easier said or read as the case may be, than done at times. Writer's block is real and then you find yourself rambling on and on and on about it. You probably already figured that out. Maybe, I just need to go exercise and increase the blood flow to the brain. Yep, that was another tip I read either surfing cyberspace,  in a book, magazine or newspaper.  Wonder if grocery shopping is considered exercise?

If you are wondering what this all has to do with waddling ducks-it doesn't. It was just a random fleeting thought when realized writer's block had set in-"If it walks like a duck and quacks likes a duck must be a waddling duck aka writer's block in this case.'

At least for today, the writing or blogging is now nurtured, weeded, (that might be debatable) and tended to for this day. So, think I'll just go see what fun the leprechauns have planned for the rest of this glorious sunshiney day.

Happy St. Patricks Day!!
